When David Michael Maurer, ACE was just 15 years old, his friend, editor Daniel Korb, invited him to observe during an editing session in Northern California and it changed his life. Witnessing the responsibility entrusted to the editor by producers, directors, actors and crew members to shape the story, the timing, the tempo, and the emotion of a film was inspiring. Since then "Dave" has established himself as an innovator in the world of independent cinema, television and streaming. His work has been seen by hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.
Recently he completed work on the second season of the AXN and AMAZON Prime's thriller series "Absentia" starring Stana Katic, Patrick Heusinger, Cara Theobold, Neil Jackson, Angel Bonanni, Paul Freeman, Matthew Le Nevez, Natasha Little, and Patrick McAuley.
In 2017-2018 he edited multiple episodes of the second season AMAZON and Sony Crackle's hit series "StartUp" starring Martin Freeman, Ron Perlman, Mira Sorvino, Adam Brody, Otmara Marrero, Edi Gathegi, and Addison Timlin.
Beyond scripted television, Dave has editor several film festival favorites. In 2006, Maurer edited the critically acclaimed "Four Sheets to the Wind" for writer/director Sterlin Harjo, which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actress Tamara Podemski, as well as a Special Jury Prize for Best Actress at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2007, Dave edited Toby Wilkins' terrifying and stylish theatrical feature "Splinter" which won numerous awards including Best Editing from the Screamfest Film Festival. The film received rave reviews for it's performances, scares, and innovative editorial style from Variety, Hollywood Reporter, New York Times, USA Today, and many more.
"Barking Water" marked his third feature film and second collaboration with Sterlin Harjo, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009. The filmmakers and cast won multiple awards at film festivals worldwide.
He also completed editorial and visual effects on the independent feature film drama "Traces" which was written and directed by Matthew Currie Holmes and stars Pablo Schreiber, Rick Springfield, Sosie Bacon, Jeremy Tardy and Keb' Mo'.
Dave's versatile career also includes the early years of Primetime reality television. He helped define the formats for multiple blockbuster television series through his work on the very first seasons and first episodes of such hit shows as "American Idol", "The Apprentice", "Oprah Winfrey's The Big Give", "Ice Cold Gold", "Hotel Secrets and Legends", "Sheer Genius", "The Pool Master", "Ultimate Homes", "Epic Mancave Builds" and many more. In addition, his VFX and Design experience was utilized on Netflix's "The Tiger King and I", "Facebook & Instagram Graduation 2020 feat. Oprah Winfrey", "The Masked Singer", and "The Britannia Awards".
He received 2004 & 2005 Emmy Nominations for his work on "The Apprentice". Dave's work on "Whale Wars" for Animal Planet and Lizard Trading Company helped earn the editing team two ACE Eddie Award Nominations.
